Football gods and tragic heroes

Football players are often regarded as heroes. Perhaps that’s going a bit too far, though perhaps not. In any case, the euphoria generated by the European football championships was boundless. Events confounded all expectations. Tragic heroes failed to place the ball in their opponent’s net or were unable to prevent an all-important header or shot trickling behind their goal-line. And on the other hand there were football gods blessed with the required amount of luck and skill to score the decisive goal at the right moment which enabled their team to progress to the next stage. Feverish fans caught up in the drama and entranced by the skills their idols displayed on the ball were left breathless.

The football player and his boot - utterly unique

In impressive fashion, the exhibition documents the highs and lows of the European football championships in the form of highly personal mementoes from the players who had the greatest influence on the European Championships, the third greatest sports event in the world. A select group of players donated their football boots which played a decisive role in one of these thrilling matches. Items include the boot of Ivica VASTIC, who finally evened the score with his successful conversion of the penalty against Poland in the 93rd minute, and the original glove of Petr CECH. The goalie who normally presents an almost impenetrable wall to most strikers fumbled a cross from Hamit Altintop in the game against Turkey, enabling Nihat Kahveci to score the 2:2 equaliser.

Football players impart their thoughts in the form of messages

In other words these players had a decisive impact on the outcome of the European football championships. They consist of players who not only displayed their soccer skills in front of an enormous number of spectators but of others, too, who advocate a certain attitude. Their messages express their convictions and the thoughts they wish to pass on to us on our way through life. Just like angels imparting a different, deeper reality for the people down here on earth. One only has to think of the angle of gratitude, the angel of passion or the angel of inspiration, just to mention a few.

11 outstandingly precious exhibits

The exhibition consists of a total of 11 exhibits representing the 11 players in a team plus an unbiased referee. Each exhibit embodies a player who took part in the 2008 European football championships and displays the original autographed boots of the football player which decided the outcome of the game as well as the thoughts of the player in the form of an angel’s message. Since each exhibit is unique, it represents a particularly coveted memento and souvenir of the 2008 European football championships in Austria and Switzerland.

At the same time the exhibition also features sculpture of angels, hand-created by an artist from Vorarlberg. Each exhibit is accompanied at the side by a very special guardian angel.
